Getting To Know; Sergio, Manager

My name is Sergio De Freitas. I'm originally from Johannesburg South Africa. I began working in J.J Coppinger's as a barman in January 2017 and became the General Manager in 2020. My career in hospitality in South Africa when I was around 16 years old where I began waitering in various restaurants and later becoming manager of one. I then ran my own Café & Bakery with my wife from 2011 until late 2016.

Where myself and family made our move to the beautiful town of Midleton. I became a barman/waiter in J.J Coppinger's and to be honest I hadn’t had much past experience in bar-work.

Overtime I developed a keen interest in whiskey and started to develop my knowledge of Whiskey. I became J.J Coppingers' Whiskey Ambassador. Where I would help develop staffs knowledge of Whiskey and arrange Whiskey tasting and events for the bar.

I was later promoted to general manager for 1 whole day, before we were forced into lock-down due to covid restrictions.

I also took a very keen interest in the cocktail side of the bar-trade and so started learning as much as I possibly could. I now help develop the cocktail menus across the groups bars and train staff in the art of making beautiful cocktails.

The best part about my job are my interactions with customers. I love chatting with people and passing on my knowledge to give the guest the best possible experience.

In my spare time I like to spend time with my family and friends.
